Food Dehydrator

My mom gave me her food dehydrator and I am really excited to start preserving food and dehydrating fruits and vegetables! My first attempt was of course banana chips. I really thought it was going to be a long process but it wasn’t! Its kinda like a crock pot, almost, you do need to check it every few hours and switch the trays around, but its very much “set it and forget it” I started with 6 bananas that made 3 trays with 2 bananas on each.

I did learn that I need to slice the bananas a little thinner. This would cut the drying time down and allow them to become more chip like and not so chewy.

I started at 630 in the evening thinking that it will take 6 hours. That was going to be perfect timing because Chase gets off work at 11 pm so it was going to be right before we go to bed. Not, it was about 18 hours later. They are done now!

I’m very happy with how they turned out! I’ll do it again soon! I started blueberries this morning; it says they will take 12 to 24 hours… I’m thinking 24 hours!

Thursday evenings!

Every Thursday we have made sure we are sitting in front of the TV to watch Burn Notice and what other shows are on before and after. We have all the seasons on DVD and plan to keep watching it until they stop airing it.

I started this tradition with Chases family before we were married. I would rush over for dinner and Burn Notice! I'm kinda proud of this because I have heard that many couples wouldn't hang out with their in-laws without their partner.  I find this quite the opposite with our family. I love spending time with my in-laws. If Chase can't be with me that just means I'm the center of attention. HaHaHa!  I loved those nights and the memories we made. Now its a firm date night with us. Even if we both are falling asleep we watch it.

End of summer cleaning

Even through my house is very small it gets dirty fast. I think it is because there is nowhere for the dirt to go but on top of itself.  I have to wash dishes, clean the stove, and scrub the floors. Dust and vacuum the living room/dining room. I also have to sort through the mass of papers that collect in the bedroom. Then it is on to the bathroom; which is always at the bottom of my list because I can never get it looking clean.  After all this I will spray for bugs because I have found 3 more devil crickets (one was already dead when I found it but it still counts in my book).  I think I need a nap before I get started.

I also need to find curtains for the bedroom. I have a beautiful comforter and I need something for the windows to match. I may just buy fabric and sew… or have my Aunt “help” me!

Side note: I’m lame but I don’t care, yes I get excited about spices especially free ones. As a wedding gift someone gave us a Kamenstein spice rack which included 5 years of free spices. I ordered my first free spices only paying for the shipping. 17 bottles of spices for $14! Kinda proud of this! Now all I have to do is wait for them to come!

On to cleaning…

I hate crickets!

This apartment is starting to be overrun by little black devil crickets!  A few weeks ago I was sitting on the couch watching TV and felt like I was being watched. I looked over and I saw that little devil only a few inches from my face! I literally jumped over the coffee table! I then quickly graded my purse and left! Good thing it was close to the time I needed to pick Chase up! He came home and killed it!

About 2 weeks ago Chase and I were watching TV and I heard a pinging sound in the kitchen. I couldn’t find where it was coming from, but I kept hearing it…. Then I saw it… IN THE CEILING LIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!  We killed him.  Okay I’m calm now then again I heard that pinging…. We found 3 more! I finally stood in the kitchen to see were the little devils are coming in at. After a few minutes of waiting I saw it! A small crack between the ceiling and top cabinet and just then one was pulling himself through it.  He jumped at me and hit the fridge and then jumped again at me. And yes I did scream bloody murder. Chase killed it.  We had some unused spray foam, so we sealed up every little crack in that kitchen.
Now as I sit here writing this the crickets are chirping and pinging against the window and in the ceiling.
I don’t like them they don’t like me.
